"Mama Iyanla"

About Rev. Dr. Iyanla Vanzant Affectionately Known As "Mama Iyanla"

Iyanla Vanzant is the New York Times #1 bestselling author six times, has authored seventeen books which have been translated into twenty-three languages, selling over 10 million copies collectively; four-‐time NAACP Image Award recipient; three-‐time Gracie Award winner, three-‐time Honorary Degree recipient, and those are not the best ways to describe Iyanla Vanzant. Mother, grandmother, good girlfriend, wise-‐woman, life coach, spiritual teacher, soul technician, attorney, and “the fixer” are better but still, not quite right. Minister, prayer warrior, servant, cultural custodian and student of life are the words she would use because this captures the presence of her being and the essence of her soul.

Her role as executive producer and host of the critically acclaimed, award-winning unscripted series “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” became the No. 1 reality show on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. There, Iyanla goes behind closed doors and deep inside people’s lives where she applies spiritual principles to help people gain inner peace and healing by learning to “do the work.” Oprah herself has called Iyanla, “the most powerful spiritual healer, fixer, teacher, on the planet.” Susan Taylor, former editor of Essence Magazine calls her, “The real deal, in the arena of personal healing and growth.” Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love says, “Iyanla is a walking, talking, miracle in heels, who carries the energy to heal the masses.” And many of the 3 million plus, who follow her on social media lovingly refer to her affectionately as, “auntie.” Yet, if you ask Iyanla she would say, I am just an ordinary person committed to doing extraordinary things as a demonstration of what is possible when you love God, have faith in yourself, and trust the amazing process called life.

A woman of passion, vision, and purpose, Iyanla embodies a holistic approach in her message and teaching style. Transparent, truthful, and wise, she is a living testament to the value in life’s valleys and the power of acts of faith. On stage, as she tours the country, Iyanla uses humor and straight talk to deliver her consistent message of love, forgiveness and living your best life.

There is no better arena in which to experience Iyanla’s dynamic presence as teacher and spiritual guide than in one of her retreats at Inner Visions Institute for Spiritual Development. As Founder of Inner Visions World Wide, Iyanla is actively engaged in personal development courses and on-going training programs for spiritual life coaches, leaders, and ministers.
